Amanda Bynes Was Never Schizophrenic, She Just Smoked A Ton Of Weed?

Amanda Bynes

Humph. *Eyebrow raise.* According to Amanda Bynes‘ lawyer she has never been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, has never had issues with drugs or alcohol and is on no medication. Humph.

Her lawyer, Tamar Arminak, told People, “For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it… She’s never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she’s proud to say she’s been marijuana-free for the past nine months.”

OKAY.

Then her mother Lynn told E! News, “Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar.” Lynn adds that Amanda is “very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana.”

OTAY.

You expect anyone to believe that Amanda Bynes’ wackadoo behavior was caused solely by weed. Dude, full disclosure, but I have inhaled and it did not cause me to consistently behave in a way that was detrimental to my wellbeing. When Amanda first started acting weird, I honestly thought she was just trolling us and having fun, kind of like Shia LaBeouf, James Franco or Joaquin Phoenix. When the behavior became more consistent, more bizarre and when reports came in that she might be mentally ill things started to make sense.

It’s hard not to just say, OK, she was never crazy, she was just a stoner so that I can absolve myself of the mean-spirited teasing that ensued when she was acting like a fool before I knew it might be something serious. However, an adult woman does not have their assets and livelihood put under legal conservatorship of her parents for just smoking weed. Especially in a state where smoking weed is legal. Considering the fact that judges felt she was mentally unfit to stand trial after being arrested for a DUI and had a 30-day extended psychiatric hold, there are some pieces missing from the puzzle here.

Clearly, Amanda’s guardians  don’t want us to know what’s up with her, which is totally fine but seriously, weed? We’re glad Amanda is doing well and going to college at FIDM. Let’s just stop it with the reefer madness. Society knows weed doesn’t transform you into an entirely different person.
