Leonardo DiCaprio's Speech on Climate Change May Change Your Opinion of Him

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio gave a moving speech at the United Nations on Tuesday to urge world leaders to take climate change seriously. Leo, who was recently named a UN Messenger of Peace, was at the UN for the organization's Climate Summit, but this isn't his first time getting involved in environmental issues. Leo was one of thousands of people who marched in NYC on Sunday for the People's Climate March to raise awareness about climate change, and he has been a tireless fundraiser and advocate for environmental charities and causes. However, despite his experience, Leo said he was coming to the UN as a "concerned citizen" and touched on his core issues:

"I play fictitious characters often solving fictitious problems. I believe that mankind has looked at climate change in that same way. As if pretending that climate change wasn't real would somehow make it go away, but I think we all know better than that now . . . None of this is rhetoric, and none of it is hysteria. It is fact."

The actor's appearance at the UN also marked his first foray into Instagram as he shared several pictures from the event on his newly active account. Leo isn't the only star who has been delivering speeches at the UN. Emma Watson made headlines when she delivered a powerful speech on the issue of feminism at the UN last Saturday.
