Nicki Minaj Post Breakup: "I Had to Learn to Do Something as Simple as Sleep Alone"

Nicki Minaj is one tough chick, but she’s also proud of being a “vulnerable woman.” The Grammy-winning rapper opened up to Rolling Stone about her painful breakup from boyfriend of 11 years Safaree Samuels, and admitted that she decided to reveal her personal life via her new album The Pinkprint because she’s proud of her emotions.

As fans well know, Minaj’s latest album is more personal than any of her previous records, detailing her hardships and split from Samuels with emotional tracks like “The Crying Game” and “Bed of Lies.”

“One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," the 32-year-old artist admitted to RS. "I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone," she said following her split from Samuels. "I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."

After the release of her album, the former American Idol judge got into a heated argument on Twitter blasting her ex. "Even when I try to protect ppl, they still try to take advantage of me. Haven't u learned that God is in control? Stop while you're ahead,” Minaj tweeted on Saturday, Dec. 26.

"Anything you don't appreciate will be taken. God sees your ungrateful evil soul. I gave and gave and gave. Threatening me? Blackmail? Jump," she continued. "30K watch the night my cousin was killed on the street like a dog. More than rappers. But it was never enough. Don't make me. Too much love."

Samuels, a record producer, hit back at the singer, tweeting: "im doing interviews about my s--t and s--t im promoting.. not 1 thing said im doing interviews about nicki. yall sound ridiculous..and speaking to some1 about pub and splits isnt blackmail. stop looking for pitty.. u handle your buisness why cant i? and its not Bout fame its about respect and youve had 0 for me the pass few years.the 0 respect u had for me at home had nothing 2do w/music."

During an interview with Power 105, Minaj explained her relationship with Samuels had deep roots. "This is somebody I grew up with. Like, I don't even know how I'm going to function without that person in my life," she shared. "I never lived my life as a famous person without him. I don't think people realize it's not just a breakup, that was a humongous part of my life."
